Its core objectives include ensuring adequate resources for institutions, rationalisation of academic programs, promotion of high-quality research, and supporting the implementation of the Government&#8217;s national higher education strategy. The Commission nurtures international standards of scholarship while addressing Mauritius&#8217; educational, cultural, social, and economic needs.<\/span><\/p><p><strong class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-4\">Vision<\/strong><\/p><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-3\">The vision of the HEC is to make higher education a key pillar of the national economy and to position Mauritius as the foremost destination for students in the region.<\/span><\/p><p><strong class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-4\">Key Functions<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-4\"><strong class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">Policy Development:<\/strong><span class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3 ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-5\">\u00a0Formulate policies and criteria for the regulatory function of the HEC and guidelines for institutional planning, funding mechanisms, and research.<\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-4\"><strong class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">Regulatory Responsibility:<\/strong><span class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">\u00a0Registering and accrediting higher education institutions and their programs, conducting periodic accreditation audit at HEIs and determine the recognition and equivalence of academic or professional qualifications in higher education.<\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-4\"><strong class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">Finance:\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">The HEC gives effect to government policy on funding of the Higher Education Sector and allocates funds to public HEIs under the purview of the HEC.<\/span><span class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">It monitors their performance against specified outcomes through a funding mechanism.<\/span><\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-3\"><strong>Research:<\/strong> Promote the development of academic impactful research in the Higher Education Sector.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-3 ms-rteFontSize-4\"><strong>Powers<\/strong><br \/><span class=\"ms-rteFontSize-3\">The HEC holds authority to request data, enforce institutional accountability, and establish committees to advance its mandate
